Affairs - True Stories of Love, Lies, Hope and Desire - Juliet Rosenfeld
Description
Psychotherapist Juliet Rosenfeld shares the secrets, lies and motivations behind real affairs, through the lens of five very different true stories.
We meet the man who left his wife in the delivery suite to visit his young mistress and the psychologist who put attraction to a patient above career ethics. We hear from the surgeon who risked everything for someone he'd only ever spoken to online and the previously straight woman who cheated on her husband with a female colleague – and changed all of their lives.
In Affairs, this deeply-concealed but exceptionally common aspect of human behaviour is brought out into the light and explored without judgement or shame.
Juliet Rosenfeld is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and author, living and working in London. In both her clinical work and writing, she has a special interest in couples, and the difficulties they encounter in long term relationships.
She has written widely on mental health, and her research work at UCL is focused on the impact of relationship breakdown on society and how we might understand it better from a therapeutic, rather than an economic or cultural perspective. Juliet studied at Oxford, then worked in advertising, and briefly the civil service, before retraining as a psychotherapist twenty years ago. She is Clinical Trustee of the Freud Museum.
